Hi all, I am new to this game but would really love a handheld scanner so I don't miss those jolly Red Arrows talk when at the air shows. I am after one within the £100-£150 price range so not too dear. I have noticed that the GRE PSR-295 handheld scanner is in that price range and also will pick up my beloved Red Arrows wave band. I don't want anything too complicated to get set up or to program and so wonder if the GRE PSR-295 would still be a good bet. Does anyone know anything about it as I don't see much mentioned in these forums about it? Harry Turtledove Ebook Torrents Sites. I used to have one and it is excellent.
Pros: - Easy to program and use. - Alpha tagging (so you can label each channel with the airfield name and service etc). - Covers UHF (for military) as well a VHF (for civil). - Has 8.33MHz spacing for civil VHF.
- Pretty loud and clear. - Lots of memories (1000 i think). Cons: - Quite bulky, especially by modern standards (this is why I sold mine and bought a tiny Icom). - It has a socket labelled 'PC' but the instructions only talk about using it for cloning to another PSR-295. I couldn't find any software on the Internet for the PSR-295 which would mean you could program it from a PC. - The white labelling above the keys on a silver background can be hard to read from some angles.
